Modernize with Refactor

Modernization with ADOM Refactor

Understand an existing application before deciding how to replace or improve it.

Application owners and modernization teams

Start with what the system does

ADOM Refactor supports the analysis of existing software and the preparation of material for modernization. The goal is to make existing behavior, dependencies and business meaning easier to review before committing to a replacement approach. It complements ADOM’s build workflow.

A reviewable modernization path

  • Agree the application, sources and permissions in scope.
  • Collect approved material and identify gaps in the available evidence.
  • Review findings about behavior, rules, data and dependencies with system owners.
  • Decide which behavior to preserve, correct, retire or redesign.
  • Use the reviewed requirements to guide implementation and comparison.

What the team brings

Provide the source material you are authorized to share, documentation, representative workflows and the people who understand the system’s exceptions. Depending on the engagement, additional data definitions, integration descriptions or runtime observations may be needed. Confirm the supported acquisition approach and platform scope before assuming access or coverage.

What a good result makes clear

The team should be able to explain what is understood, which conclusions are supported, what remains uncertain and what decisions are needed. A modernization plan may preserve a business outcome while changing the technology, but that decision should be explicit. Source analysis alone cannot establish that a replacement behaves correctly in every operational case.
